Today was somewhat uplifting and not just because I feel WAY better than I did since I've been feeling unwell or because the sun finally came out this afternoon. It started off as yet another rainy day and I had to Metro into the city to pick my car up from the shop. I ended up being an hour late for my normal volunteer time at the pregnancy center. As a result God allowed me the opportunity to get to talk and share with some young ladies who ended up coming in during my time there. Basically all I've been doing lately is sorting material resources, answering the phone and door and making appointments. Two young ladies made appointments in person today however, and while waiting for their appointment times we had time to chat. I'd been wondering lately how I'd really be of use and as a result of my last counseling training last week felt a bit conflicted about balancing love and truth in speaking the truth in love. Today God allowed me the opportunity to see these girls where they were at as young women with hopes, dreams and futures. I was able to share my testimony with one of them in particular and I was so grateful for the time God gave me today to affirm that He could use me there and being sensitive to the Spirit's leading in sharing my faith and how God has worked in my life.

Back at home this evening, I had a wonderful hour and 15 minute walk and discovered a good inexpensive gas station near here. Just before bed, Katie and I had a nice, long chat. She kind of reminds me of me. She's a fun gal. She makes me laugh. I like her.

I'm going through a book on prayer by D.A. Carson with my discipleship partner (I got to finish the chapter during my Metro ride into the city). The current chapter spoke of 2 extremes to avoid in regards to our attitude to prayer, "feeling like we need not pray because God is sovereign and doesn't need our input" and "feeling like God will grant our every whim and fantasy like some magical genie". He also pointed out a good example of what our attitude toward prayer SHOULD be like from the Bible with the passage about the son petitioning his father. His father can loving grant the request, choose to withold it because he loves his son and knows that it isn't in his best interest or choose to delay granting the request because it isn't asked for in the right way. Katie made a comment tonight about God always coming through for us and I was reminded of what I read and the fact that no matter how He answers prayer, His desire is for us to depend on Him and commune with Him because it is good for US.
I'm reminded that every good and perfect gift comes from God and that He witholds no good thing from His children. I'm challenged to pray without ceasing and draw closer to God through prayer.
