So my 4th of July hasn't been too eventful. Then again, it isn't really MY independence holiday. I got some stuff sorted out in my room this morning after breakfast. I spent at least an hour and when I took a break I felt like I hadn't gotten anything accomplished. My friend Arcinda called me raving about Kal Ho Naa Ho. She loved it! She agreed it was fabulous although a different kind of movie than Khabbie Kushie Khabbie Gum.

Ru and I went to the store to get some items to make brownies from scratch then I helped her make them. My first time EVER making brownies- we'll have to revisit the brownie making though (it didn't go so well).

Here's Ru and I with the sugar-free brownies we attempted to make.

I tackled my room once more determined to make a dent. I can get so overwhelmed and discouraged when there's a big mess so I didn't want to bring the rest of my stuff home tomorrow to a room that's not somewhat together. I took a break and hung out with Malia and Ru who were watching shall we dance and a crazy thunderstorm passed by our way! Wind was blowing things sideways and it was actually hailing for a while! Ruhiyyih was jumping up and down all giddy with excitement and taking pictures on her camera- she likes to watch storms. The power went out and I took it as a sign to tackle my room yet again. I can honestly say that I now see some improvement.

Here's a pic Ru took of the hailstorm outside.

Ru accompanied me for an exploratory walk during which we assessed the damage done by the storm. A hotel had parts of it's roof ripped out and was sectioned off with caution tape, porta-potty's at the construction site were overturned as were newspaper stands that Ruhiyyih enlisted my help in uprighting (she's such a good citizen). The walk was great, I don't know how far but it was good exercise and I enjoyed getting to know Ru a little better. She's a great gal.

I came home and checked my facebook account. I just signed up yesterday but it was so cool how many of my old friends were on there and a really good friend of mine who is having a baby in Sept.(due on my birthday - the 3rd!) had pics up with her pregnant tummy so that was REAL exciting to see. I can't believe how many years have just breezed by and all the different things that are going on in people's lives.

Today was pretty low-key but I thank God for the nonturbulent times when I can just sit back, do simple things and enjoy the simple pleasures of life.
