WAY TO GO RUTH!

Today we had a bridal shower for my friend Ruth.
It was exciting to recount her incredibly romantic, almost fairy tale courtship and engagement to her fiance Andrew. Hers was definitely a love story only God could write. It's amazing to see how God moves and works in our lives particularly in how people end up marrying each other. Just a year ago she hadn't even met him yet but as soon as he had he stepped up, pursued her, and it was on!

When I think of how marriage is ultimately a picture of God's love for the church and Christ's love for His bride. Their relationship reminds me of my Father who pursued a relationship with me and His unrelenting and beautiful love for all that are His. Unlike Ruth, there was nothing lovely, or beautiful about me because of the sin that plagued and shackled my soul. But He chose to love me anyway by sending His only Son to bridge the gap between my sinful soul and a Himself. Jesus, knowing that I could not, laden in my sin, come to God on my own, willingly laid down His life in loving obedience to God and love for me and freed me from the bonds of my sin by His sacrificial death on the cross. His resurrection to new life proves that what He did was acceptable to the Father and He offers a new life with Himself to all those who believe and trust in Jesus as the only way to Heaven.

We had a good time rejoicing with Ruth. But it was bittersweet as I thought to myself, in just a month's time, my dear sweet, friend will be leaving to travel across the world and begin a new life with her husband. I'm going to miss her but, what a way for her to go!
