I'm not a fan of rewrites, additions or even jazzed up versions of hymns. I tend to feel like the original was written the way it was meant to sound and we have no business meddling with someone else's incredibly beautiful song or lyrics unless perhaps the doctrine or theology is a little off or unclear.
Recently, I was trying to find a copy of my favorite hymn Come Thou Fount . I was surprised (and maybe a bit annoyed) to find that so many of the versions left off one or both of my favorite verses (I shared them a few posts earlier). In my search, although I still haven't found a version with both verses, I did come across a new refrain. Unfortunately this song doesn't have the last verse that I love but I did actually like the added refrain:
God Of Glory, Voice of Thunder
Split the cedars, bring us under
Oh the shadows, of your wings
You give us grace, you give us peace
It brings to mind His sovereignty wrapped up in the love, strength and comfort His children can find in Him. I bought the song on iTunes and found the lyrics at: http://www.trinitygracechurch.com/withoutend/?p=24
